‘Aksi Cinta Bumi’ plants 7,000 mangroves on Tree Planting Day

ANTARANEWS.COM - 'Aksi Cinta Bumi’ program, initiated by the Blibli Tiket Action ecosystem, has planted 7,000 mangrove trees in the Seribu Islands, coinciding with National Tree Planting Day 2024, which is celebrated every November 28th.

Most of the mangrove trees planted in 2024 came from collaborations with several businesses, including CarbonEthics and Bank Neo Commerce.

Of these, 3,700 trees were planted through the conversion of returned customer packaging, the electronic product trade-in program, and donations from customers and employees within the Blibli Tiket ecosystem.

Furthermore, 2,000 mangrove trees were planted by 2,000 participants in the Fresh Track 5K Run program, which celebrated the anniversary of Ranch Market and Farmers Market.

There are 1,000 mangrove trees planted as a form of support from Bank Neo Commerce, funded by the new account opening program, and another 300 trees from the proceeds of a circular fashion auction by designer Rinda Salmun during the ‘Langkah Membumi Festival 2024’ in early November.

“This mangrove tree planting is a collaborative effort involving customers, employees, and more business players, including CarbonEthics and Bank Neo Commerce. This aligns with Blibli Tiket Action’s commitment to supporting emission reduction through mangrove rehabilitation,” said Lisa Widodo, COO & CO-Founder Blibli, in an official press release on Friday.

This step, she said, not only contributes to blue carbon conservation to mitigate the impacts of climate change but also supports local community resilience through training and skills development that increase income opportunities.

Bimo Soewadji, CEO & Co-Founder CarbonEthics, added that the mangrove planting strengthens the Thousand Islands role as a natural abrasion barrier for the coastal areas of Jakarta and its surroundings.

“We at CarbonEthics greatly appreciate the concrete support from Blibli Tiket Action and several other business actors in rehabilitating mangrove areas in the Thousand Islands, particularly on Harapan Island,” said Bimo.

In addition to expanding climate solutions through coastal environmental conservation, he said, this action also prioritizes the well-being of local communities through potential increases in fisherman’s catches and the growth of the local tourism sector.

First initiated in 2020, ‘Aksi Cinta Bumi’ initiative has consistently increased its contribution to mangrove planting and reforestation in various critical areas in Indonesia since 2021.

By 2024, Blibli Tiket Action has consistently increased the number of trees planted to 15,000.

This commitment reflects Blibli Tiket Action’s dedication to supporting blue carbon conservation, or carbon stored in marine and coastal ecosystems, where carbon emissions can be absorbed 10 times more than terrestrial forests.

Through this rehabilitation initiative, Blibli Tiket Action is optimistic that it can support the potential absorption of up to 231,000 kilograms of C02 over the next 20 years.

Furthermore, this green initiative has played a significant role in supporting the preservation of marine biodiversity and improving clean water quality in coastal areas.
