Paying taxes is the responsibility of every Indonesian citizen. Among the many types of taxes, vehicle tax is mandatory for vehicle owners. This tax must be paid annually. Failing to pay on time can result in a hefty penalty—up to 25% per year.
There are two ways to pay your vehicle tax: offline and online. Offline payments can be made by visiting the nearest Samsat (One-Stop Administration System) office, a Samsat outlet, or a Mobile Samsat service (called Samling).
However, thanks to technological advancements, you no longer need to go to the Samsat office in person. Payments can be made through the National Online Samsat application. This online system offers the benefits of saving time, energy, and money.
What’s even more convenient for Jakarta residents is the home delivery service for the Proof of Payment Obligation (TBPKP), which is included with the Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK). With this simplified system, there’s really no excuse to delay paying your vehicle tax.
Advantages of Paying Motorcycle Tax Online
Convenient
No need to go to the Samsat office. With the Signal app, you can pay your motorcycle tax anytime and anywhere—as long as you have a smartphone and an internet connection.
Cost-Effective
Paying manually means commuting to the Samsat office, which can incur transportation costs. You may also have to wait a long time and end up buying food or drinks. All of this adds up.
Fast
Collecting the required documents for online tax payment takes some time, but the application process itself is faster. You don’t need to allocate time to travel back and forth to Samsat—freeing you up to do other things.

How to Calculate Annual Motorcycle Tax in Jakarta
If you’re buying a motorcycle in Jakarta for the first time, here’s how the tax is calculated:
- Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB): 10% of the motorcycle’s sale price
- Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB): 2% of the Vehicle Sales Value (NJKB)
- Mandatory Contribution for Road Accident Fund (SWDKLLJ): IDR 35,000
- License Plate Fee (TNKB): IDR 100,000
- Administration Fee: IDR 50,000
- STNK Issuance Fee: IDR 100,000
For more details, check your vehicle tax at: https://samsat-pkb.jakarta.go.id/INFO_NJKB
Enter your vehicle’s type, year, and brand.
Example:
A motorcycle model X has an NJKB of IDR 20,000,000.
The first-year tax would be:
- BBNKB: 10% × 20,000,000 = IDR 2,000,000
- PKB: 2% × 20,000,000 = IDR 400,000
- SWDKLLJ: IDR 35,000
- TNKB: IDR 100,000
- STNK: IDR 100,000
- Admin: IDR 50,000
Total: IDR 2,000,000 + 400,000 + 35,000 + 100,000 + 100,000 + 50,000 = IDR 2,685,000
So, the first-year tax is IDR 2,685,000.
From the second year onward, only the PKB, SWDKLLJ, and admin fee are charged:
- PKB: IDR 400,000
- SWDKLLJ: IDR 35,000
- Admin: IDR 50,000
Total: IDR 485,000
So, the annual tax after the first year for motorcycle X is IDR 485,000.
